Incorporating Trauma-Informed Care Into Your Practice

Traumatic events can have an intense physical, psychological and spiritual impact on the way we live our lives. Oftentimes, clients who are seeking basic needs (such as employment and housing) have a history of trauma under the surface. Human services professionals working with clients are increasingly asked to respond to multi-faceted needs, but may feel underprepared to provide appropriate mental health support. The good news is trauma-informed care isn’t just for clinicians – anyone working directly with clients can learn how to deliver trauma-informed care. Through this training, you will gain greater understanding of trauma-informed practice, feel more comfortable responding to your clients presenting with trauma, and learn to address second-hand trauma you might be experiencing.

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • Differentiate between trauma and stress

  • Recognize the prevalence and impact of trauma

  • Identify the 4 Rs and 6 principles of trauma informed care practices

  • Differentiate between trauma informed and trauma specific

  • Apply trauma informed care practices to real world scenarios

  • Identify a unique commitment to implementing trauma informed care in their work
