CEJA Workforce Network Explores the Future of Clean Energy Manufacturing at MxD

Members of the Chicago Jobs Council's CEJA Workforce Network recently gathered at MxD, Chicago's advanced manufacturing and digital innovation center, for an inside look at how manufacturing is helping shape Illinois' clean energy future.

The visit included a guided tour of MxD's state-of-the-art facility, where participants explored emerging technologies and learned how innovation is transforming modern manufacturing. Following the tour, attendees participated in a facilitated discussion on strengthening workforce pathways into clean energy careers.

Representatives from 13 organizations attended the meeting, including workforce development providers, educational institutions, state agencies, and community-based organizations. Together, they discussed opportunities to expand access to careers that support Illinois' growing clean energy economy.

While clean energy is often associated with solar panels and wind turbines, the Climate and Equitable Jobs Act (CEJA) defines clean energy jobs more broadly. The legislation includes careers in the manufacturing, development, installation, and maintenance of renewable energy technologies and energy efficiency products, making advanced manufacturing a critical part of Illinois' clean energy workforce ecosystem.

The tour sparked conversation around innovation, collaboration, and opportunity. Participants described the experience with words such as "transformative," "innovative," "collaborative," and "perspective," reflecting the excitement surrounding the future of clean energy manufacturing.

The CEJA Workforce Network continues to convene partners from across Illinois to strengthen workforce systems, share promising practices, and ensure more residents have access to quality careers in the state's clean energy economy.
