Leadership Development for Frontline Supervisors
Course Description
This three-session course is designed for workforce development professionals who supervise frontline staff. Geared toward new supervisors and veteran managers who want to refresh their skill set, this course has something for everyone. Whether you manage a staff of 2 or 20, this training will teach you practical skills for juggling your multiple responsibilities.
Specifically, this course will help you:
- Understand your own leadership and communication styles and how to flex them based on your employees’ skill levels and attitude
- Effectively delegate to your staff in order to promote inclusion
- Motivate your staff, boost morale, and prevent burnout
- Effectively communicate expectations and constructive criticism to your staff in order to manage staff performance and outcomes
- Manage reporting requirements and deadlines in order to remain accountable to your funding sources
- Partner with other workforce development agencies in order to improve your staff’s overall service delivery for your clients
- Troubleshoot issues with external constituents (clients, employers, funders, etc.) when things go wrong
- Negotiate the tension between “meeting your numbers” and meeting your clients’ needs
- Translate your agency’s strategic messages into daily tasks for your staff
- Encourage communication across departments within your agency in order to coordinate and streamline work

During this hands-on, interactive training, supervisors will explore ways they can work more effectively with their staff and outside constituents, flex their leadership style based on different situations, and more efficiently manage multiple job responsibilities. Through case studies, role plays, large and small group discussion, and panel presentations, participants will have the opportunity to learn strategies for enhancing their own managerial skill set.
